Prints Porthtowan Sir Humfhray-Bentos 1996

Porthtowan Sir Humfhray-Bentos 1996

from £95.00

🎩 Sir Humfhray-Bentos – Live at the Porthtowan Stump, 1996

7:48pm sharp, one bulb flickering above the keys, and a full house already regretting it. Sir Humfhray-Bentos arrived without introduction, took two folding chairs for himself, which he launched into the crowd and then played his opening song “Toad in the Modal Hole”—a piece reportedly inspired by a blocked drain caused by a rogue Ginsters pasty. It was loud. It was long. It was humid.

Backed by a confused line-up including Saxy Pasty (under investigation), Ron & The Silence, and Soft Shell (From Truro), the night spiralled between brilliance and bafflement. Several audience members tried to leave but were blocked by a roaming improvisation from Lenny Gubbins (by cellphone, delay expected). Bentos closed with a blistering, unrequested encore of “Get Over It” from his then-new album That’s Jazz Baby. Get Over It.

Snorketts Cider was served warm. Dave lost the tickets. No one clapped. Legendary.
