Painter and observer of everyday coastal life in West Cornwall.
Naïve, humorous work rooted in boats, people and odd moments by the sea.
I live in St Buryan, Penzance in Cornwall. I make paintings and “people pictures” that behave like the place does: charming, rough round the edges, occasionally bizarre.
The paintings are naïve on purpose — boats, characters, harbours, sea life — usually with a small twist that turns it from “nice” into “hang on…”. I’m not chasing polish. I’m chasing personality.
The people pictures are observational and a bit odd: everyday scenes that look like they were shot decades ago, where the humour is hiding in plain sight.
I’ve spent years working in animation and comedy. This is the same instinct, just turned into pictures you can hang on a wall.
These People and Places Pictures are about noticing rather than staging. Ordinary scenes, familiar places, and the small, funny or strange moments that slip past unless you’re paying attention.
