Painter and observer of everyday coastal life in West Cornwall.

Naïve, humorous work rooted in boats, people and odd moments by the sea.

I live in St Buryan, Penzance in Cornwall. I make paintings and “people pictures” that behave like the place does: charming, rough round the edges, occasionally bizarre.

The paintings are naïve on purpose — boats, characters, harbours, sea life — usually with a small twist that turns it from “nice” into “hang on…”. I’m not chasing polish. I’m chasing personality.

The people pictures are observational and a bit odd: everyday scenes that look like they were shot decades ago, where the humour is hiding in plain sight.

I’ve spent years working in animation and comedy. This is the same instinct, just turned into pictures you can hang on a wall.

These People and Places Pictures are about noticing rather than staging. Ordinary scenes, familiar places, and the small, funny or strange moments that slip past unless you’re paying attention.

A cow with a striped shirt standing inside a bar or restaurant, with a man in a suit and tie sitting at the bar and another person in the foreground wearing a dark blue sweater. The background features framed pictures and bottles on shelves.
A man and woman in swimwear sitting on sandy beach in front of a graffiti-covered wall, with bottles and sunglasses on the ground around them.
A boat in the water with a person standing on a dock near crates and fishing equipment, at a harbor or pier.
Person wearing a fish mask, a yellow coat and pants, with a large gold chain with a CHIPS medallion, standing on a beach with ocean waves in the background.
A person kneeling on a flooded promenade near the sea, with large waves crashing against the railing. Debris, an overturned wheelchair, and scattered rocks are visible on the ground, while flooded benches and a small shelter are also present.

Six men standing inside a rustic barn, dressed in muddy work clothes and aprons, with tractors in the background. They are smiling and appear to be farmers or workers on a farm.
